Tricity Landscape Park
2025-09-14Tricity Landscape Park – The Green Heart of Pomerania
Just a few minutes from the house lie the forests of the Tricity Landscape Park (Trójmiejski Park Krajobrazowy) - a vast forest complex that envelops Gdynia, Sopot, and Gdańsk, and takes on a particularly tranquil character around Wejherowo and Pętkowice. This is the perfect place to slow down, take a deep breath, and feel the scent of pine trees after the rain.
The Park comprises thousands of hectares of forests, valleys, gorges, and moraine hills. In this part of Pomerania, nature is almost at your fingertips - it only takes a few minutes of walking to find yourself in a completely different world. Paths wind between the hills, passing small streams and open clearings, from which, in good weather, you can even see the distant ranges of the Kashubian hills. The dominant scent in the Park comes from the pine, but the true character of the forest is defined by the beech trees and various species of oak, interspersed with spruces and birches, which together form beautiful, dense crowns. The diversity itself is remarkable - around 850 plant species have been inventoried in the Park. These old forests hide rare, sometimes even relict and mountain plants. During your hike, you might also stumble upon the rarely seen, towering Douglas firs, which are among the tallest trees in the world. The guardian of this place is the natural monument, the "Gruby Dąb" (Fat Oak) tree - a pedunculate oak over 350 years old, towering more than 25 meters high.
This is an area created for active recreation - ideal for enthusiasts of hiking, Nordic walking, or cycling. Interestingly, the Tricity area, primarily known for its beaches and the sea, is highly popular among mountain bikers. The forests of the Tricity Landscape Park offer dream terrain not only for relaxed bike tours but can also present a serious challenge even for experienced riders. Around Wejherowo and Pętkowice, you will find many routes of varying difficulty - from gentle walking loops to more demanding trails leading through hills and forest tracks. In summer, it is also a great spot for a picnic, a morning jog, or simply a moment of silence away from everything.
Although the park stretches in the direct vicinity of the Tricity, it has maintained its natural rhythm. You can encounter roe deer, foxes, wild boars, and sometimes even red deer here. In spring, the forest smells of resin and blossoming undergrowth, and in autumn, it transforms into a mosaic of colours, inviting you for mushroom picking.
Thanks to the proximity of Pętkowice, you can visit here at any time of the day - for a morning walk, a bicycle ride on the forest roads, or an evening stroll amidst the birdsong. This is one of those places that you discover anew every time.
The Tricity Landscape Park is truly the green heart of Pomerania - close to the city, yet far from the rush. It is perfect for catching your breath after a day spent on the golf course, recharging your energy, and rediscovering the simple pleasure of being in nature.
